WARREN BUFFETT’S DIVIDEND GIANT IS CRUSHING THE MARKET IN 2026
One of Warren Buffett's most successful long-term investments is having an exceptional year, outperforming the broader market while continuing to reward shareholders with growing dividend payments. The iconic beverage giant is once again proving the power of a strong global brand, consistent cash flow and long-term dividend growth.
With shares gaining approximately 35%–37% in 2026, compared with roughly 11% for the S&P 500, Coca-Cola has become one of the year's standout defensive stocks.

Coca-Cola Stock's 2026 Performance
According to recent market data, Coca-Cola shares have climbed from approximately $69.12 at the beginning of 2026 to around $95.80 on November 4.
Market Indicator | Performance |
KO starting price (2026) | $69.12 |
Recent share price | $95.80 |
KO 2026 gain | ~35%–37% |
S&P 500 gain | ~11% |
Market capitalization | ~$412 billion |
Dividend yield | ~2.2% |
The performance is particularly impressive considering Coca-Cola is a mature consumer-staples company rather than a high-growth technology stock.
Warren Buffett's $1.3 Billion Investment on Coca-Cola Stock Now Worth $37 Billion
Warren Buffett began accumulating Coca-Cola shares in 1988, eventually building Berkshire Hathaway's position to approximately 400 million shares for around $1.3 billion.
Today, that investment is worth approximately $37 billion. But the real attraction goes beyond capital appreciation.
Coca-Cola currently pays an annual dividend of $2.12 per share. With Berkshire holding 400 million shares, the company is expected to collect approximately $848 million in annual dividend income.
That is an extraordinary return on the original investment, demonstrating the power of long-term ownership and dividend compounding.

64 Consecutive Years of Dividend Increases
Coca-Cola has increased its dividend for 64 consecutive years, placing it among the elite group of Dividend Kings. Its current quarterly dividend is $0.53 per share, equivalent to $2.12 annually.
For long-term investors, this consistency is one of the company's biggest attractions. The latest financial performance also supports the investment case. In the third quarter, revenue increased 7% year over year, while operating income grew 12%.
Even more interestingly, price increases contributed approximately four percentage points to sales growth, while unit case volume still increased 5%. This demonstrates Coca-Cola's considerable pricing power: customers continue buying its products even when prices rise.
Is Coca-Cola Worth Holding for Another 10 Years?
The strongest argument for Coca-Cola's long-term future is its global brand recognition, distribution network and ability to maintain customer demand. Its products remain deeply embedded in everyday consumer habits, giving the company a competitive advantage that is difficult for rivals to replicate.
However, investors should distinguish between buying a great business and buying it at an attractive valuation.
At approximately $95.80, Coca-Cola trades at a relatively demanding valuation, with a dividend yield of just around 2.2%. After its impressive 2026 rally, future returns will depend on earnings growth, dividend increases and whether the company can maintain its pricing power amid rising operating costs.

AN IMPRESSIVE LONG TERM EXPOSURE
Coca-Cola is another reminder that successful investing does not always require chasing the next high-growth technology stock. Buffett's decades-long investment demonstrates how a powerful brand, consistent cash generation and growing dividends can create enormous wealth over time.
However, Berkshire's historical returns should not be confused with the potential returns of someone buying KO at today's elevated valuation. Coca-Cola remains an impressive long-term dividend business, but patience and entry price matter just as much as business quality.
